The 2024 Olympiad Phase 2 Qualifiers
The 2024 Olympiad Phase Two Qualifiers have ended with Dr Victor Ng’ani emerging victorious with five points out of six rounds in the Open Section. Martin Njoroge & Matthew Kanegeni were in joint second place with 4.5 points.
The event saw 24 hopefuls battling for the seven slots for the Final Third Phase at the KCB Sports Club in Ruaraka.
The top seven include Dr Victor Ng’ani, Martin Njoroge, Matthew Kanegeni, Ian Mutuge, Mehul Gohil, Elvis Likoko & Lenny Mataiga, who will join the following four players in an 11-person round-robin.
CM Kenneth Omolo – Highest Rated Player.
Robert Mcligeyo – 2nd Highest Rated Player
Joseph Methu – 2023 Kenya National Champion.
Mutuma Kinoti – 2023 Kenya Junior Champion.
It was a bumpy start for 2021 Kenya National Champion Mehul Gohil when he failed to turn up for his first-round game against Ian Mutuge due to work and then lost the second game to Moses Abasa Amatalo. Fortunately for Mehul, he managed to win the last four games, make it into the Final Phase with four points, and end up in fifth place.
Ladies Section
Nicole Albright won the Ladies’ Section with five points out of six rounds, while both Jully Mutisya and Wanjiru Kimani tied for second place with 4.5 points.
The following eight players, Nicole Albright, Jully Mutisya, Wanjiru Kimani, Yvonne Mwashe, Glenda Madelta, Mercy Ingado, Chanel Mckenzie and Ether Karanja, will now join the following three players in an 11-person round-robin.
WFM Sasha Mongeli – 2023 Kenya National Champion & Highest Rate Player.
WCM Joyce Nyaruai – 2nd Highest Rated Player.
Elizabeth Cassidy – Top Junior.
