2024 Bank Windhoek Namibia Open – IM Robert Gwaze triumphs
The 2024 Bank Windhoek Namibia Open ended last week with IM Robert Gwaze of Zimbabwe coming out of retirement to win it with a perfect 7/7 score. He took home NAD 7,000 (or approximately USD 400).
Timothy Kabwe from Zambia was second with 5.5 points, while 2024 Namibian National Champion Heskiel Ndahangwapo grabbed the third sport with five points.
IM Robert Gwaze won the 1998 African Junior Chess Championship in Nairobi and has authored a book titled ‘Life & Games of Robert Gwaze‘.
Ladies Section
WIM Esperanca Caxita of Angola emerged victorious with 6.5 points and won a cash prize of NAM 5,000 (USD 300). WCM Jamie-Nicole Beukes and WCM Jolly-Joice Nepando claimed the second and third positions, respectively, in this category.

Event details
The five-day tournament at the Windhoek Golf Course, Namibia, was a true celebration of diversity and inclusivity. It saw 108 players from various backgrounds and age groups, competing across four Sections: Open (40 players), Women (16 players), Veteran (4 players), and Junior boys and girls (48 players).
