2024 African Schools Individual Chess Championship – Kenya shines
The 2024 African Schools Individual Chess Championship concluded successfully, with Kenya securing four gold medals and one bronze medal, finishing second overall.
This event reinforces Kenya’s growing reputation as a chess powerhouse on the continent and highlights the immense talent of its young players.
Kenya’s medals were earned by the following exceptional players:
– Gene Pence Baraza (Open U7),
– Annabel Makanga (Girls U11),
– Ava Nyaribo Nyaboke (Girls U13),
– Prudence Kimeli (Girls U17).
The bronze medal was won by Mwaniki Joseph Gacura (Open U11).
The African Schools Individual Chess Championship is an annual event that unites top young chess players from across the continent. Organized under the auspices of the African Chess Confederation, it serves as a platform for nurturing future chess stars.
This year’s edition featured a total of 39 participants from five federations and ran from 14th to 21st December 2024 in Accra, Ghana.
