Samuel Were wins 2024 Bungoma Open
Samuel Were of Uganda was the proud winner of the 2024 Bungoma Open that ran over the weekend of 23rd & 24th November 2024 at the plush Bungoma Royal Suites Hotel.
He scored 6 points out of six rounds to go home with KES 30,000 (USD 250) and a glittering trophy.
His compatriot, FM Patrick Kawuma, was second with 5.5 points and won a cash award of KES 15,000.
The defending champion, Mehul Gohil, found the games more challenging this time but still ended in joint third place with five other players. He scored 5 points but grabbed the bronze medal due to his superior tie-break.
Lady’s Section
WCM Jully Mutisya emerged victorious in the Lady’s Section with an impressive score of 5 points. Young talent Shakirah Shukri from Kisumu also scored 5 points, securing the silver medal. Their outstanding performances earned them the top cash prize of KES 16,000.
A total of 86 contestants took part in the Open Section.
Junior Section
A total of 90 contestants took part in the Junior Section.
