Rishit Ravat wins the 2025 EA Junior Chess Championship
Rishit Ravat emerged victorious in the fiercely competitive 2025 East Africa Junior Chess Championship, securing a remarkable 6.5 points out of the seven-round event. His victory in this year’s edition means he has now won three consecutive editions, cementing his position as one of Kenya’s top junior players.
Tandeka Shiloh (Uganda), Mikail Walli (Tanzania), Ronald Wabwire (Uganda) and Christian Mugambi (Kenya) all tied for joint second place with six points.
Lucy Nduta Fantalis was the top lady player with five points.
The event was inclusive, with separate sections for players in the U12, U10, and U8 age groups, ensuring that all young chess enthusiasts had a chance to showcase their skills.
The event, from the 10th to the 12th of January, 2025, at the Aga Khan Academy in Mombasa, the coastal town in Kenya had 270 players from seven federations taking part.
The total cash prize was KES 136,000 (approximately USD 1,000).
Lighthouse Chess Club were the event organisers.
