Abdulkadir Mohamed Warsame wins the 2024 Zone 4.4 Individual Chess Championship

Abdulkadir Mohamed Warsame of Somalia is the proud winner of the 2024 Zone 4.4 Individual Chess Champion.  He scored seven points out of nine rounds to win a glittering trophy and USD 700 as his cash prize.

CM Robert Mcligeyo, on the other hand, was second with six points and won USD 400 as his cash prize.  Hawi Kaloki was third with four points and went home with USD 400.

WCM Joyce Nyaruai of Kenya was the top lady player with 6.5 points. She went home with USD 500 as her cash prize.

Taking the silver medal in the Lady’s Section was WCM Jully Mutisya, who scored five points.  She won USD 300 as her cash prize.  WFM Sasha Mongeli grabbed the bronze medal with five points and USD 200.

The event had ten participants from only three federations, including Somalia, South Sudan and Kenya, with both the Open and Ladies Section combined due to the low number of entries.

Zone 4.4 comprises 14 countries: Comoros Islands, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Madagascar, Mauritius, Rwanda, Seychelles, Somalia, South Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda.

Clarion Hotel in Nairobi, the capital city of Kenya, was the event venue from the 6th to the 13th of February 2025.
