Intellect Academy Cup 2025 – Kenya ends up 19th

The Intellect Academy Cup 2025 is a major international youth chess festival in  Novokuznetsk, Russia, from 12th to 18th February 2025, as part of the global Chess in Schools initiative.  Team Kenya took part and represented by five players and five accompanying officials:

• Jadon Simiyu – Under-13 Champion (born 2012) – Team Captain

• Eli Osidiana – Under-11 Champion (born 2013)

• Mac Antoine Ishimwe – Best Under-9 (born 2016)

• Gene Pence Barasa – Under-7 Champion (born 2017)

• Ariela Telo – Under-7 Champion (born 2017)

• NA Everlyn Gichuru

• Adolphe Ndagijimana

• Benard Barasa

• Angeler Matovu

Kenya finished the event with 57.5 points to end 19th out of 57 teams.

This is Kenya’s third chess campaign into Russia with the first two being when St Peters Juja School took part in the Belaya Ladya events in 2018 and 2019.
