The 2025 Kenya National PWD Chess Championship

The 2025 Kenya National PWD Chess Championship that ran on 16th August 2025 at the Chess Kenya Federation offices saw 18 contestants battling it out for top honours and slots in the national team for the PWD Chess Olympiad which will be held from October 19 to 26, 2025, in Astana, Kazakhstan.

The national team is to be composed of four players, representing the following categories:

  1. Two players from the Hearing Impairment (HI) category – 1 Male and 1 Female
  2. One player from the Physically Handicapped (PH) category
  3. One player from the Visual Impairment (VI) category

At the end of the seven round 30 minutes per player event the following players qualified for the team.

  1. Alex Kipkoech – Physically Handicapped (PH)
  2. Philip Olilo Odongo – Hearing Impaired (HI), Male
  3. Janet Atieno – Hearing Impaired (HI), Female
  4. Otieno Ronny – Visually Impaired (VI)
