2025 Nakuru Open – Chaderek Manyok wins
The 2025 Nakuru Open Chess Tournament concluded last week, with Chaderek Manyok of South Sudan winning with 5.5 points out of 6 rounds.
A fellow compatriot, Samuel Gai Ngong, scored 5.5 points to finish as the joint winner, but, with a lower tie-break, took the silver medal.
Both Chaderk Manyok and Sameul Gai Ngong equally shared the cash prize of KES 50,000 (approximately USD 400). Peter Majur Manyang, also of South Sudan, took third place with five points, ensuring a podium sweep for South Sudan.
WCM Jully Mutisya won the Ladies Section with 5.5 points and went home with KES 25,000. WFM Joyce Nyaruai, who scored 5 points, ended up in second place.
The hotly contested event saw 100 players in the Open Section and 38 participants in the Ladies Section fighting for valuable Grand Prix points to qualify for the 2025 Kenya National Championship.
The Junior Section which ran for one day over six rounds saw 100 players taking part.
