2026 East Africa Junior Chess Championship – Jamie Obora Kanango the winner
The 2026 East Africa Junior Chess Championship ended last week with Jamie Obora Kanango winning the event with a score of 6.5 points out of seven rounds.
Keyshawn Elmer Gichana was second with six points.
The Youth Section saw 80 participants battle it out for top honours in this prestigious event.
Wanjiru Wanjiku Gichuga of Nova Pioneer International School, on the other hand, won the U12 Section with 6.5 points out of seven rounds. This section had 56 participants.
Jeremy Duke Aden of Black Knights won the U10 division with 6.5 points, beating 48 competitors.
Ramadhan Mborifuko of Green Academy Uganda won the U8 Section with a perfect score of seven points out of seven rounds. This section had 22 participants.
Uganda sent a powerful delegation of 23 of their top juniors, with Tanzania and Tajikistan sending one player each.
