2026 Kakamega Open – Gabriel Njuki is the winner

The 2026 Kakamega Open concluded on a high note as Gabriel Njuki emerged victorious, scoring an impressive 5.5 points out of six rounds and outperforming a strong field of 84 participants. He claimed the top prize of KES 40,000 and earned valuable Grand Prix points, catapulting him to the summit of the GP standings.

WFM Joyce Nyaruai was the top female player, finishing with four points and securing 19th place in the combined open and ladies ranking.

The Junior Section saw just over 200 players taking part competing under various age groups.

This event formed part of the 2026 Kenya Grand Prix Circuit, serving as a qualifier for the Kenya National Championship scheduled for December. The Kakamega County Association organiszed the tournament.
