During the meeting, Andrea Bocelli offered his cooperation to FIDE in promoting chess in school initiatives and chess programs for people with disabilities. Born with a visual impairment, the singer lost his sight completely when he was 12 years old.

It is not the first time the singer has used his worldwide fame to promote chess, having supported some chess events in the past. “Chess is always a pleasant and intriguing challenge because luck in chess, as in life, is not part of the game”, he tweeted once.

Having sold over 75 million records worldwide, Bocelli’s list of hobbies and accomplishments goes well beyond music. It includes skiing, skydiving, skating, bicycling, windsurfing, horseback riding, and chess.
