Sadam Ali Sheikh crowned PWD King
Sadam Ali Sheikh was the proud winner of the inaugural Kenya National Championship for People Living with Disabilities.
The event held at Stima Club on 28th September 2019 attracted an impressive 72 participants. These included players from, Mombasa, Nakuru, Nyeri, Thika, Nairobi and Kisumu.
Chess Kenya can stand tall in Africa with this memorable event to making chess an all-inclusive sport.
Players who took part included the following;
The Physically Handicapped (PH).
Hearing Impairment (HI).
Speech Impairment (SI).
People living with Albinism.
persons living with Autism.
Hemophiliacs.
Sadam Ali Sheikh was the overall winner with 5 points from 5 rounds in the Open section. This section had 24 players.
David Mwangii, on the other hand, was the winner of the Junior section also with 5 points out of 5 rounds. This section had 50 players.
Kamburi Secondary School for the Deaf, SA Joytown Special Secondary School, Muhoro School for the Deaf were some of the institutions represented.
Chess Kenya has further announced that the disabled players will not pay any entry fee for the 2019 Kenya National Chess Championship.
Winnie Thitu, who is the current Head of Women and Special Needs, was the main organiser.
