Tanzanian chess makes news headlines in the 2016 Baku Chess Olympiad
Tanzanian chess made the news headlines yesterday during the ongoing 2016 Baku Olympiad. Nine year old Navini Alapati Choudary was interviewed by Susan Polgar at the famous Crystal Hall which is the venue for the Olympiad.
Navini who was born on 15th June 2007 is the youngest competitor in this years event and plays on board 5 for Tanzania.
Navini is a grade 4 student at Aga Khan Primary School in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania.
Another player who was expected to be in Baku for this year’s Olympiad was 16 year old WCM Riya Shah who was due to play on Board 1 for Kenya. WCM Riya Shah is the current Kenya Ladies Champion and is a student at the Aga Khan Academy in Nairobi, Kenya.
